DMN7 returns to PLX Records with experimental and electroacoustic sound art. Since her latest release she has been working consistently with several projects going in different directions aesthetically and this is just one of them. "Traces and imprints I-III" is a three part examination of electroacoustic sounds. Far from "easylistening" it still has highly meditative qualities of industrial ambient and noise music. These sounds is best experienced with headphones or a rigorous sound system.
Behind the name DMN7 is Marika Markström, audiovisual artist born in Finland and currently based in Stockholm, Sweden. She holds an MFA from Malmö Art Academy and a BFA from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. More recently a BA in Electroacoustic Composition from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm.
Marika´s artistic expression consists primarily of paintings, sculptures and spatial sound. Accents of video, light, fashion, performance and poem coexist in between. The works are separate but compose entities together. Her visual language turns mainly towards a kind of thorn minimalism with referential traces in signs, fragments and materiality, cvarrying ambiguous layers of meaning.
Marika´s pieces, thoigh multilayered and poetic, are often marked with anthropocenic imprints, certain existential phenomena and accents of systems theory in contexts like transcoporeality and extended ecology. Also movements between artificial/natural and hard/fragiel often return in her art. These are some the most tangible aspects within her sound art and musical pieces too, where dark, machinic synths meet archaic voices and vibrant instrumental timbres. Since last year she has started to explore fields between electroacoustic atmospheres and ensemble or choral music.
